Santiwat Pithakpol

Birthday: March 15, 1972

Since I started the Marine Science Education in the Faculty of Fishery, Kasetsart University in 1989, I have put all my efforts to study enthusiastically and industriously. Due to the increasing water pollution problems, the subjects in which I have a special interest are the ones concerning the environmental Oceanography, such as Marine Ecology and Aquatic Toxicology.

Nowadays, a developing country like Thailand has been trying to increase the national food products especialy by aquaculture, both brackish farming and sea farming. The result of which is very satisfactory. Farmers are encouraged to have a wide knowledge on this field but they do not get proper education about the environments so they try to get the highest turnout from the lowest capital by paying no attention to water and waste treatment before letting them out into the sea. This destroys the shore ecosystem, nursery areas and the mangrove forest.

From the above-mentioned reasons, I have decided to further my study on the field of oceanic environmental conservation to upgrade the living standard of the people and to make the best use of the existing resources.

I came to Japan in January 1995 and started my Master education, which sponsored by Monbusho scholarship, at Marine Biochemistry Laboratory, Department of Bioresource Science, Kagawa University. I am writing a Master thesis in the topic of "Regeneration of Inorganic Nutrients in the Coastal Sea by a Heterotrophic Dinoflagellate, Noctiluca scintillans". I hope that my thesis will be completed in February, 1997.

After my Master program, I intend to further my education in a doctorate program in Marine Pollution and then go back to work in Thailand to help develop my country. I affirm that I will make myself the most useful and serviceable to the societies as much as I can.

My hobbies

When I was in Thailand, I frequently went to the beach in holidays. I love marine sports, such as SCUBA diving and windsurfing. I have got an NAUI Open Water Diving Certificate since 1990. For windsurfing, I had tried to learn it many times but I still could not stay for long on the surf board. In Japan, I sometimes spend my leisure on badminton because I have no chance, until now, to dive in Japan waters. I am also interested in camera and photographing technics. I will be pleased if I have time to travel around taking photographs. However, I am just the beginning amateur photographer who want to exchange experiences with anyone whose camera is his hobby. If you have suggestions or would like to make a discussion on the cameras, lens and other photographic accessories, please e-mail me. Waiting for you mail.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!!!!!!!
